Wow, I PR’d again!

It was an absolutely brutal day for a race, even at 9am this morning, but I managed to pull off yet another PR time for the 5 miler. I beat last years time in the same race by almost a minute, and it sure felt like it. I honestly felt like I was going to die it was so hot, and I made the worst mistake … I started out WAY too fast. I did the first mile in like 6:40, which is way out of my league, I thankfully slowed down a little for the next two until settling into my 7:30 pace for the last two (but by that time, i was toast!) I only managed to take water at the first stop in mile 2, and attempted in mile 3, but my body rejected it. I actually spit it up (didn’t throw it up, just rejected it). I ended up with water all over me, and it honestly felt good.

The important part from this race was that I beat the same ‘hot-shot’ from last week by about 2 minutes. There is something about this guy that bugs me, he once again was showing off, stretching and running beforehand to spectators, then makes his ‘shirtless’ way to the front of the pack for the race before it started. He died in mile 2 this time when I passed him. I absolutely loved it. I shouldn’t play so hard on other peoples shortcomings because I was dying too, but it gives me something to work toward. I also had in the back of my mind the fact that I hurt myself last year in this race (pulled a hammy). I made sure to keep the pace manageable after the first mile …

Another great thing was I ran into my old boss (VP) Tom Davis, it was great to see him, and although I didn’t see him until after the fact, we got to share stories like we did in the past. He PR’d in this race as well, and its great to share in the experience with him.

I’m not sure whether i’ll get up to run tomorrow morning or not, it depends on how I feel. I’ve got to take it easy a bit I think since i have another race coming up on Saturday (yes, another race). This will be the second leg of the luzerne county triple crown, its only 4 miles, but still a race. I’ve never done that course…. More importantly, I have to take it easy because Steamtown training starts again next Monday, i’m a week away from 18-20 more weeks of training!
