The emails from the Lehigh Valley Half are coming in like crazy, it must mean its almost race time. I’ve had a great couple of workouts so far this week, especially this morning when I decided to run my usual 6 mile course backwards, and add a mile to it, and it kicked my butt. As I wrote on my Twitter page this morning, I guess that training is supposed to hurt sometimes. I was surprised though that I ran it as fast as I did, I did under an 8 minute mile for most of it, despite the hills … that either means my watch is not working right, or i’ve gotten myself in better shape, I certainly hope its the latter .. 🙂

I’ve also geared myself to eating better, and I can just feel myself getting the marathon spirit back again, its good to be back. I’m working on how I can adjust my morning schedule to get some more sleep until I have to get up once a week to do a longer run again … my normal plan is this:

5:05am, alarm goes off, I get up..
5:15am, come downstairs and get a coffee, and get ready to go out
5:32am (after the weather goes off), head out for my run
6:25am, return from my run (approximate)
6:30am, get my lunch ready for work
6:45am, eat breakfast
6:55am, shower and get dressed for work
7:15am, leave for work

So the way I look at it, I am awake 2 hours and 10 minutes each morning before work, and of that, less than an hour of that is dedicated to running (i can finish most runs within 50 minutes). I need about 20 minute to get ready for work and 10 minutes to eat, so somehow I can work in another 25 or 30 minutes of sleep, i’m just not sure where .. I’m thinking by prepping my lunch and my running gear and work clothes the night before might help save some time, and then stop the sitting around time before I head out. For some reason I just wait to go out until after the weather comes on the news instead of just heading out when I felt ready (like I used to).

I have some things to figure out, but we’ll get there I guess … i’m still feeling positive for yet another glorious weekend of running. Morning temps are expected to be in the 50’s, with afternoon temperatures in the upper 70’s.. it should be great.

Spring has definitely sprung, I hope it keeps up for the following weekend as well (for the Lehigh Valley half!)
