Why hiring is like swimming

We all get to the point in our business where we need to bring on our first, or additional employees or contractors to help us with the day to day tasks or to help move us to the next level.

But managing these additional resources & keeping them focused on what they are qualified to do is an important concept.

We call it staying in your “swim lane”.

Picture a pool with lane markers, everyone on the team has their own lane where they can excel in what they do.

We’ve seen many cases recently where a resource doing work in one area, and who wants to help the business, steps outside their qualified area of expertise & does a task they are not qualified to perform.

As entrepreneurs & business owners, we need to have the courage to stop & make sure the right person is doing the right job & staying in their “swim lane”.

Imagine if just 2 people in a pool veered out of their swim lane.

There would be collisions among people, causing lost momentum.
We would have an empty lane where nobody is working.

What can happen to the business?
