what did you expect?

Well, as to be expected, I didn’t stick to my concept of considering myself injured. I believe the added foot pain I had on Tuesday was due to me overcompensating on Monday for the pain in my 2nd and 3rd toes. It seems to have gone away totally now, but I am keeping up with the treatment of stretching, icing it and using ibuprofen (and still taking it easy).

I did take Tuesday off totally, did the cross-country machine on Wednesday and then I ran, YES I RAN, today for 2.5 miles … I didn’t have any pain, although this swollen part on the top of my foot is odd and a little sore. Its not a tendon, its not a bone, and it doesn’t hurt to the touch .. it appears to be a muscle of some sort. The pain in my toes still bothers me on occasion, but its not as bad. I still intend to take Friday off, and run a shorter distance on Saturday. I’ll take Sunday off due to having to teach and then pick things up again on Monday … technically, thats a lot of rest. I see Dr. Pete on Monday at 4pm (the foot guy) and i’m hoping he hooks me up with a cortisone shot in my foot .. i think thats the answer.

In this whole dilemma of my foot, I questioned the ability to be able to run the Diamond run and start marathon training once again in a week and a half. I think i’m going to be okay, I just have to take it easy until then. I really wanted to build a better base prior to training, but I think i’ll be okay. The first two weeks of training has me running only 4 days (1 short, 2 medium and 1 longer run). I think I can handle that. We’ll see though, we might have to scale things back a bit.
