My training has been sidetracked slightly this week due to the MASSIVE snowstorm (15+ inches), and the fact I was supposed to goto Canada, and never made it. I only ran on Tuesday (its thursday) and I expect to get some miles tomorrow and then do the 20 miler on Saturday. I couldn’t go out Wednesday morning because of the snow, nor Wednesday afternoon because of the snow (I sat in 4+ hours of traffic in the snow), and then this morning all the roads were closed and snow-covered, so I hope to get to the YMCA tomorrow morning and get 5 miles in.
Anyway, I was surprised how good I felt after the 18-miler on Sunday, I was sore on Monday, but nothing like I felt after the 16-miler on the treadmill. I think doing those long distances on the treadmill is bad for two reasons, it kills my legs, and also because it softens me up to the struggles of being out on the road and having to improvise. I’m not sure if I mentioned the struggles this past week (putting a glove over “it”, and peeing next to my car after the first lap??) … you just don’t get that experience in the gym.
Oh well. We’re still pumped for the Ocean Drive marathon at the end of March. I’m expected to fly out to Canada that week, so at least I won’t have to worry about the struggles of training while trying to travel ….
