I was skeptical as to how well I would do during this first week of training, but things are just fine. My hamstring is healed (my knees hurt, but thats normal) and I’m gearing up for week two. I finished an 8-mile run yesterday (saturday), which was the longest I did in two weeks, and then followed it up with a 5-mile “marathon-pace” run this morning. I calculated that my Steamtown pace should fall around an 8:50 mile. I seemed comfortable with that. I was saying to myself the whole time that I can tell I am in week one of training, I was really sore and everything, but I guess I’m supposed to feel that way now. Its when I’m in week 10 that I feel like shit, that I have to worry ….

Tomorrow I continue with the weights and crosstraining, and then back into the running miles again. I did up the miles a bit back to where it was before I changed it in the hopes of improving my fitness. I think I can handle it, but we’ll take it in stride. I have to watch how fast I do the monday workout since its only supposed to be a ‘light’ recovery workout, I did it a little too fast last week (although I skipped the whole weekend, so I needed it). I’m contimplating doing the Fairfield half anyway, even if I don’t run a great time, I think the experience would be great …. we’ll see later on in the week.

Only 17 weeks until Steamtown…. I can’t wait!
