After 5 years of running safely on the side of the roads, I took my first wipe-out this morning on my 5-miler. It was really kind of my own fault, but there were some contributing factors that helped facilitate it. First of all, I am okay, no major injury or anything, just scraped my knee and took a layer of skin off my hands (the palms) … Its like having road-rash .. Anyway, it was kind of dark out .. because its cloudy and rainy, second, there was a car coming, so I slowed down and hugged the side of the road more than normal. I slowed down because the car was coming, but didn’t realize the road had given way and there was a huge ditch, which I fell right into … WOW, it sucked, I felt like an idiot as I laid there on the ground. At no time was I in danger, thankfully, but its taught me to be a little more careful. Since it happened before mile 2, I had to struggle through the pain for 3 more miles, but I think I did pretty good. I got back to the house, my knee was all bloody and my hand was a little tore up, but I cleaned up and went on my way, no damage done.

I was happy with my Monday morning weigh-in, coming in at 192.4, down 2.4 pounds from last week. I know last week I was slightly bloated because I over-ate because of being depressed about being injured. It shows i’m on the right track, and I don’t feel myself actually depriving myself of anything I really want, I do miss my ice cream, but realize that during the most difficult part of training, I can’t afford to be eating a half gallon of ice cream, although I do still treat myself once a week to ice cream. Regardless, my weight is under control, my training is going fairly well, and i’m hoping to peak again (like I did in June) within the next 5-6 weeks, just in time for Steamtown and then keep that pace for Harrisburg 5 weeks later …

Otherwise, my back hasn’t been bothering me so much this weekend, although it was a little sore last night, I used the heating pad and it turned out okay. My left knee is ok, although after my spill I felt a little pain under the knee cap, although I think its from the trauma of the fall, it slowly went away. I’m entering the worst part of the training now, so its time to suck it up ….
