I was recently inspired by #LinkedInEnthusiast Clarice Lin who provided directions on how to get your historical data from LinkedIn so you can measure your engagement.

Her instructions to do this are in her post: http://goo.gl/6RgUcM

My goal was to determine my engagement, but also to find my common theme in my comments over the past few weeks.

I was happy to see that I was well engaged, and my theme turned out to be consistent with who I feel I am as these were were the most common words I use when I comment:

  • people
  • more
  • being
  • great
  • help
  • true
  • others
  • positive
  • business
  • value

I thought that I would make a quick “word cloud” with the results to highlight “The Real Me” on LinkedIn …

Here’s what I did:

  1. Use Clarice’s instructions in her post above to get your data
  2. When you get the second email, extract the comments file from the ZIP
  3. Delete the first 4 columns from the file and save it as something else
  4. Go to wordclouds.com, upload the modified comments file
  5. Delete the most common words in the file after you upload, like “the”, “a”, “this”, “then” which only takes a few minutes
  6. Generate your word cloud

What do you think your most commonly used words are? Post yours and tag it #TheRealMe
