There is a theory out there called Emotional Intelligence (EI).

If you’ve never heard of this, its the capacity to recognize our own feelings and those of others.

We see examples of EI all the time, especially on social media and the news, when one person just lashes out on another person.

And afterward, when reflecting back on the situation, its obvious that the response was inappropriate.

So how does knowing your EI help us as business owners?

It helps us to be better leaders and build effective teams.

Because people know we won’t explode on people and we know how to respond the right way.

We can better lead change efforts and be more empathetic .

Because we can read other peoples emotions, including clients and prospects.

But Daniel Goleman coined the term “Amygdala Hijack” .

This happens when people feel before they think and act.

This “hijack” can hurt relationships, cause feelings to be hurt and breakdown teams and collaboration if we don’t manage it. I

t has been shown that EI accounts for 75%-96% of our success.

I struggled with “Amygdala Hijacks” earlier in my career.

But learned why keeping emotions under control are important in business and in life.

I had to learn the hard way.

How well do you control your emotions?
