I was coming out of the gym the other day after a morning swim. I passed by several staff members in the hallway and at the counter. And I was amazed at their disengagement.
Not one of them even looked at me Nor did they respond back to me when I said “I hope you have a great day”. I thought their job was to be with people. To welcome people and to answer questions, but most importantly to provide value to people. But this wasn’t happening at all here, it was like nobody wanted to be there.
Is this happening because of the employee? Or the work environment? Or both?
Regardless, we’ve all had jobs that we don’t necessarily like for some reason. But we’ve consciously made a decision to stay there. And we can consciously decide to leave as well. Some do, and some don’t.
A lot of times we feel there is no way out of a job we don’t like. Or sometimes we just don’t have the motivation to want to change. But usually its because we have fear of making a change.
Fear only happens when you’re about to grow and never appears when you’re comfortable.
There is always growth and opportunity on the other side of fear.
So feel empowered by it, the only thing standing in your way is your ability to make a change.
How do you deal with fear?
