As I wrote last night I was excited about my long run this weekend, I felt so good all week I felt I was ready for it, however the weather seemed to do it to my again. I was totally dehydrated by mile 18, and as they say, I hit the wall. I struggled through the last 2 miles by running and walking some, and ultimately running to the end of the source, so at least I ended strong.

I felt that I was better prepared this week, I even had an extra bottled water during the run, but it just wasn’t enough. It may be that i was already dehydrated going into the whole thing, I guess I really don’t know. I felt that 44 oz. of water, plus 8 oz of gatorade and a GU gel would be enough for the run, but I was wrong. Next week, since I plan to go another week without a stepback week, I intend to take extra money with me to ensure I can get hydration if i need it. Part of it might be that I took my ‘extra’ 20oz water at around mile 10, instead of at mile 15 like I usually do .. that may have made the difference, I guess I don’t know. I was really thirsty at that point though, so I guess I don’t know.

My body felt pretty good for the run until I became dehydrated, actually, my body isn’t the issue, it was really the lack of water. I even tried to get out by 7:30am this morning, but even by then it was 73 degrees, and by the time I was done, it was 85 … just brutal (plus the humidity is high).

Well I guess I can sit and bitch about it all I want, but the right thing to do is to pick myself up, and make it better next week. Another 20 miler planned, similar course, this time I won’t have a problem. I promise myself that. I have 10 miles tomorrow that I intend to be better prepared for than in the past as well … I know i can do this.

Just a tough day I guess, they all can’t be good runs I guess.
