Its torture not being able to get out on the road, but I know that taking it easy right now is critical to me getting back out there. My back is feeling much better than it has the last couple days, and I anticipate that it will continue to get better as the days go on. My intention I think is to attempt to cross-train maybe on Saturday, just taking it slow, and then maybe again on Sunday and then start up with some light jogging on Monday. Again, it depends on how I feel. I can’t push it right now.
My marathon training will probably be 14 weeks, which is 4 short of what I planned on doing, but I think it will be okay. I just have to modify Pfitz’s plan a bit. I have been doing quite well on eating and hopefully maintaining my weight, its tough being good eating when you don’t exercise. The worst part is that at night time, i’m not even tired because I didn’t work out.
Another benefit of this whole back injury is that I can rest my foot as well. The rest will do me some good, and I probably should’ve taken more rest during the off-time after the Steamtown marathon. Oh well, hindsight it always 20/20 I guess. Either way, Saturday is my target day for a cross-train, so that means I would be out of running for 5 days. I haven’t taken a 5 day break from running in many years … i think the longest I went was last summer after I injured my hammy in the Forty Fort race .. I took 3 days off at that point, and that sucked.
Oh well, we’ll keep in rest mode for a few more days and continue to make progress. I was considering starting to crosstrain earlier, but the chiropractor reminded me that its healing, but its NOT YET HEALED, don’t overdo it! I’m sure he’ll tell me that on Friday too, but I know when to say when ….
