So a couple more milestones have passed this summer, I’ve returned from my yearly vacation to Wildwood and yet another step-back week is completed. My vacation really hurt my ongoing weight gain issue, and I faced the fact this morning when I weighed in at 199 (up a pound from last week). Granted I was doing spectacular work last week with the diet up until Thursday night … I decided to eat a ton of pizza, and then a ton of crap on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Well, i’ve done the damage, time to do the repair.
My step-back week is completed also, it felt good to cut the miles back a little (although a 14-miler isn’t necessarily an easy run). My legs feel rested more than normal, and since i’m off from work today, i’ll do my 10 miler today instead of having to get up at 4:15 on Wednesday morning to do it… I have to remember to be smart about things where I can.
I did manage to get my one planned run in down in Wildwood this weekend, a 6-miler along the boardwalk and back streets of town. I really do enjoy running down there, however I was disappointed that I couldn’t convince myself that it was worth attempting to do the OD marathon again next spring. I got that ‘closed in’ feeling once I got off the boardwalk and entered town, and it really felt like the end of the race again where there was nothing and nobody but condos … i’m not sure i want to go through that pain again. I might however consider doing the 10-miler, because thats the best part of the course in my mind .. after 10 it really sucked.
Regardless, I’m back to committing myself to eating better and making up for the pounds i’ve put on. I have 54 miles scheduled this week, so that should help. I did not buy any ice cream again this week at the grocery store, so I have no reason to think that I will go out of control with it. I also bought some different foods to break the monotony, so I hope it works.
I believe I am in week 8 of training for Steamtown now, so we’re almost halfway there. Its hard to think the summer is slipping away slowly, its unfortunate, but before I know it I’ll be bundling up again and heading out for those cold runs.. blah!
