I got out for a 15-miler yesterday before the rain came, and it felt pretty good, although I did feel myself tire out a bit at mile 10-11. This is definitely where I have the problem. The short runs are okay, but the longer runs just aren’t doing me any justice! I think I did decent overall, doing the 15 miles in about 2 hours, 17 minutes, which equates to about a 9:20 mile, so I guess I did okay. I did have some left groin soreness afterward (none during), which I hope is going to subside a bit today as I rest. I’m thinking I might hit some weights later on tonight, it would be nice to get that into my routine again as well (it fell off after the job change!)
I did register now for the Run for the Red (The Pocono Marathon) on May 6th, to hopefully make up for the poor performance last week in Cape May. Most people think i’m crazy because just to finish should be enough for me, but they don’t understand the mentality of a runner, especially when you dedicate so much time to something and then do poorly, I have to make it up. I also received a flier from the local Wyoming Valley Striders about their Spring trail-run at Frances Slocum park. I remember running the fall version back in late October, and it was pretty cool. That’ll be a week after the next marathon so doing a trail run should be fun and different. After the next marathon, i’ll rest for a few weeks (lighter runs and distances) until the first week of June when Steamtown training starts again. I expect to pre-register for NYC in an attempt to do that, but not sure if i’ll be chosen. If i’m not selected for NYC, I may do the Marine Core Marathon instead, but we’ll see.
Anyway, i’m resting today (maybe weights later), and then on to a few longer runs and back to a 20-miler this weekend in prep for the next marathon!
