Its rough when I can’t get out on the roads running due to the injury, but i’ve realized that if I don’t take care of it now, i’m going to end up out for the summer. I can get back to the aerobic ability I was at prior to my injury, if I just take my time.
I’m doing everything right I hope, I’m at a point where i’m still using the blu emu gel on it, applying heat on it every hour or two, wrapping it, I’m going to start with Icy Hot today to keep it warm (its supposed to heal better like that) and most importantly, easy stretching. I’ve heard that easy stretching should be just that, easy stretching, not to a point where I feel any pain (although there isn’t much pain at this point).
I have decided that I will NOT run Fairfield at the end of the month, it just won’t happen with the injury. I’m not racing anything until August, I need adequate time to heal. I’ve got a backup training plan in my back pocket (16-week vs. 18-week) in case things don’t heal as fast as I think they will. I can still make Steamtown if I keep it smart. I’ve heard that I should be good to continue lifting weights and riding the bike to keep my cardio up, so we’ll do that, but again, keep it easy.
This sucks, but I know its for the best.
