Just last week I was in several different meetings that reminded me about the importance of knowing how to “read the room”.
As entrepreneurs, and as career employees, being able to interpret the unwritten conversations that are going on is as important as listening to the actual conversation.
Do you notice who is sitting next to who in a meeting? Who is standing? Who might not be interested in being there?
Do you notice facial expressions, posture and body language?
How about noticing those short smiles or raised eyebrows?
All these are parts of emotional intelligence and they usually come out subconsciously but can give us valuable information that you might need to make better decisions for your business.
The next time you are in a business meeting, stop and observe for a few minutes … you might be surprised what you “hear”.
