self-talk

Do you talk to yourself?

Most of us do.

Self-talk goes on all the time in our minds with the things that happen to us during a day.

A challenge we have though is keeping out the negative self-talk (or self-criticism) and instead focus on the positive self-talk that helps us deal with stressful situations and times when things feel “out of control”.

Did you know that even though we only talk about 125 words per minute, our minds go racing ahead 3 to 4 times faster?

Self talk reinforces your beliefs about yourself, your work, your life, other people, the world and the future.

Therefore if we are telling ourselves positive things, we become optimistic.

But when we have negative thoughts, our outcomes tend to be more pessimistic.

For many people, their thinking runs on automatic pilot.

We have habitual ways of doing things, and often we’re not even aware that they’re habits until we try to change them.

Spend some time being aware of your self-talk and make a decision to change it if you don’t like what you find.

Accept that there are times when you can’t control a situation.

And don’t be afraid to change your outlook by “letting go” rather than just forcing a solution.

Are you aware of your own self-talk?
