Well, once again things were going well on my longer GA run today until I felt a slight tweek in my lower back around mile 6.5. Its not killing me, but it hasn’t yet subsided, so I don’t know what to make of it. I don’t feel its a muscle thing since i’m slightly crooked, so I think I flared up one of my discs that I hurt many years ago, so i’m thinking some rest will do it good. I’m off tomorrow from running thankfully, and can stand to take Saturday off too if I need to. I’d like to get my long run still this weekend, but we’ll have to play it by ear. We DON’T want to make the same mistake I made a few weeks ago by pushing it when I shouldn’t be pushing it. If I need to time off, i’m going to take it. Its holiday time anyway, and I still have MANY weeks to go until the marathon.
Its unfortunate that every time I start to feel good running again, something bothers me. When I first started running today, my left Achilles was a little tender but it went away, and then things were great and then suddenly, the little pain in my back.
I don’t know, maybe my body is finally telling me that I can’t keep going like this. It really bums me out, but I don’t want to over-react, we’ll just take it easy. The important thing is that I am in in excruciating pain like last time. It doesn’t appear to be a muscle thing this time, so thats a relief. I’ve run with lower back pain before, its not comfortable, but it actually made it feel better after the acuteness went away….
EDIT – seems to be an irritated disk in my lower back. I’m crooked. Going to start the ice treatment, the ibuprofen and the rest. Will probably not get a long run in this weekend. THis sucks!
