accountability

One of the big benefits that business owners tell me they get from the coaching programs I offer is accountability.

Accountability plays a key role whenever you are building a business, resolving a challenge or working on a strategy for growth.

But accountability is really about ownership and ability, wouldn’t you think?

When you hold yourself accountable for a specific result, you are the one empowered to make it happen, and you have the ability to make the decisions about those results.

But there are two important pieces that make up the accountability puzzle.

The first piece is having a measurement.

If we can’t measure something, we can’t be accountable for it.

So its best to define measurable results in order to show your progress.

And the second piece of the puzzle is providing visibility to your goal.

Research has shown that when goals are made public or shared with friends or family, those goals are more likely to be met.

This concept is also referred to as the Hawthorne Effect, or having an understanding that “what gets measured, gets done.”

What challenges do you have with holding yourself accountable?
