I’m winding down my last week before the Lehigh Valley half marathon this weekend by taking the day off today. I did a few 7 milers, a 6 miles and just 5 yesterday and only expect to do a few miles tomorrow before heading off to the expo tomorrow.
The weather for the weekend is not supposed too favorable for a race. Sunday has been slated to be cool and rainy, with the potential for decent showers throughout the day. My hope is that it won’t be too bad and the worst will come after the race. The start temperature is looking to be in the mid to upper 40’s, and the afternoon temperature around 60, guess we’ll see how it goes.
After I complete this race, which i’m not expecting to break any PR’s or anything, there is only a week of recovery prior to starting the 18 week adventure of training for my first fall marathon. I don’t have the training laid out yet, but I know there are some things I need to consider as I head into training:
1. speedwork, I must do speedwork
2. hills, I should ease into doing hills as the second wave
3. pace, I need to keep a consistent pace again, which I think really helped me last year
4. watch what I eat. I really think i’ve been good on eating, I just get a little out of control with ice cream, but that happens every year. I’m migrating into eating more cereal (i’m sure i’ll be obsessed with cereal soon), which is better for me than ice cream.
5. stick to the training … i tend to think I can remember all the different workouts i’m supposed to do, when its just not possible.
6. KEEP BLOGGING! I find that I train better when I write in my blog and track my training formally
So at least i’m heading right way with the right attitude as the summer approaches ..
