I’m anxious to start resting up my body in preparation for the first fall marathon on September 13th, and the opportunity couldn’t have come any sooner. I’ve been somewhat absent on posting in the blog this week just due to being tired .. the combination of traveling last weekend (and visiting, which is always busy), the added miles, the cooler weather and everything has to do with the way I feel. Thankfully I was able to sleep a bit today, and will be able to into the weekend and the bonus day of Monday (being Labor Day) .. i’m thinking I can get myself out of this coma feeling ..
The last few days have been tough running due to the unseasonably ‘cool’ temperatures .. its been in the upper 40’s and low 50’s all week when i’ve headed out, and I’m just not sure my body was ready for it. I’ve either got a slight cold, or my allergies are really bothering me right now. I’m thinking it might be a combination of both since running outside in the cold, while soaked in sweat, is probably not a good thing. The best thing right now though concerning weather is that I can now check the 10 day forecast for what the possible temperatures might be for the marathon on the 13th … but it is still over 10 days out, so you have to take it with a grain of salt. As long as its not freezing or steaming hot, I can take it ..
So now the healing starts … the potions and supplements I take will need to do some catch up. I only plan to get a 14 miler and a 10 miler in this weekend before kicking it down a notch next week. The goal as I always write about, is to keep the intensity up… even though the miles aren’t there, the intensity needs to be. I did pretty good the last few days using that motto, knocking off close to an 8:00/mile on each run. I’m feeling good.
The big writeup on tapering comes this weekend, I plan to review my training blog over the last 3 months to remember the highs and lows and remind me how far i’ve come .. I can’t wait!
