I woke up this morning with some serious soreness in my left groin area … not an injury, just really sore. I think this is a combination of tough workouts this weekend, and a little home improvement mixed in. I recall from years back (when i did home improvement) that my groin muscles would get sore after crawling around on the floor, and painting and doing physical labor. I did that type of stuff all weekend, so I think its to blame.
Worse yet, I think its what they call DOMS, or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness … it didn’t bother me yesterday, but today, WOW! It didn’t stop me from getting out for a 2 mile cool-down run this morning, which actually did loosen things up a bit for me. I think by tomorrow it’ll be okay, its just a sign that i’m training again. The first REAL sore day is upon me.
My speed run yesterday was interesting because I didn’t know the WB Duathlon (bike and run) was being held, and it used part of the dyke as the course. I was running along and suddenly I was on a race course. If I wouldn’t known that, I would’ve picked another course because it was odd running a race course and not being in a race. People kept saying ‘keep it up, good work’ and offering me water and stuff …. I guess I just look like I belong in one of those. It was humorous I guess.
I finally made the decision to run the Harrisburg marathon in November instead of traveling up to Rhode Island. I seriously considered doing Rhode Island last night, but came to my conclusion for the following reasons ……. first, its a 5 1/2 hour drive, which is quite long the day before and after a marathon. (thats 11 hours of driving total). Second, its not even 2 weeks after Steamtown (13 days) … thats kind of rough because I know it takes me usually 3 days to fully recover mentally and physically after the marathon, so you’re saying that i’m going to do another with only 10 days between … I think I stand a better chance of being injured trying to do too much too soon…. and lastly, the Harrisburg race is on 11/11/07, which helps me wrap up the season. I think that running two marathons in October leaves me with a few weeks of ‘needing something’ prior to running the Diamonds and the the Jingle Bell run before wrapping up the running season for another year ….. I know that time is rough, and I will be craving something, so I think this is the best way to go.
I’ll register later on for it ……
