I’d have to say that so far, this has been the best week of conditioning/base training i’ve had since I started back in mid-November. I guess its because I can feel myself getting stronger and better at the different things i’m doing, plus I think I have a pretty good mix of things that i’m doing.

I’ve worked real hard on swimming, pushing myself a little more each time I get in the pool. I made it 200 meters this morning continuously, which wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. The funny thing is that I used some techniques from running when I was in the pool today.. first thing was to go out slow so I don’t wear myself out because I had a long way to go. The second thing was to keep my form .. I find that when I concentrate on my form, I do so much better. The combination of these two things got me through the 8 lengths in the pool that I needed and will help me as I continue to increase my distance in the pool. One other thing I’ve noticed is that I’m starting to be able to think during a lap, when up until recently all I could think about is breathing and not drowning. Its kind of like the way it was when I first started running, I just remember back when it hurt to run a lot of miles and I didn’t enjoy it because all I could think about is the pain of the sore muscles … amazing how all these sports are alike in some way, eh?

I somehow feel like i’m neglecting running though, I only got in 15 miles total this week .. gosh, that doesn’t feel right. I guess its okay since I got in 3850 meters swimming and 35 miles of spin/cycling. The biggest change this week was my time doing conditioning and fitness classes. I didn’t expect Stacey to take “Circuit Commotion” for 90 minutes, but she did. It was only scheduled for 60 minutes, but i didn’t mind the extra work if it was being offered.. somehow she persuaded some of us to do those last 20 stair climbs at the end before letting us go (30 steps up and 30 steps down)..

I took some time to get some motivation from watching the 2010 Ironman Triathlon on Saturday. NBC had it on and someone on Twitter tweeted about it, so I DVR’d it. My wife thinks i’m nuts for watching something like that because there is no action .. but to me there was. I’m so impressed with these guys and girls and how they train so hard, it really motivates me. The good thing is that I can watch it anytime I need some motivation.

So next weekend I will register for the triathlon, so it will be official .. i’m excited, but nervous, kind of like when I registered for that first marathon 4 years ago. Everything will be okay.
