I’ve made it through the most difficult week in the training for the Pocono Marathon on May 6th. This weekend offered me 21.5 miles Saturday, and 10 on Sunday, both of which I did fairly well on (although I am sore as hell today). As I stated on Thursday/Friday, I need to work on EARNING my days off, and gosh, i’ve done that. Yesterday was a fairly comfortable run, although my left quad was sore right from the start, it was really sore by the end. Temperature-wise, it wasn’t bad, I was able to go in my shorts and a long sleeve short (with a lighter shirt underneath). Regardless, i got 21.5 in at 3:27:00, which is under a 10 minute mile.

Today was different though, a major noreaster has been in the area since last night, dumping tons of rain on us. I of course, could’ve gone to the YMCA and gone on the treadmill, but being the trooper I am, I bundled up, got my rain-coat on, and headed out for a 10 mile pace run. It wasn’t bad for the first 5 miles, but got colder as I went as the water started to sink in. My legs were SO sore from yesterday, i was really pushing it, but made it through. Regardless, I am ready to begin thinking about tapering, but will continue to push it for a few more days. I can’t get another 20 miler in next weekend because of my schedule (teaching), but I expect to get 15-16 miles in on Saturday, then another 10 on Sunday again. At that point, we’ll be ready to appear in the half-marathon, then the marathon, then do the spring local race tour (as long as my work life allows it).

I’m looking forward to resting tomorrow, I really need it. I’m tired, and I think my sinus infection is back (thats what I get for running in the rain AGAIN!). This thing just won’t go away! I hope the weather is finally going to turn for the better here soon., i’m kind of tired of the cold, crappy weather.
