regrets

As part of my work with business owners, I always coach our clients to focus on taking time for themselves.

I recently met with a business owner who admitted that he works pretty much 24/7.

And he was okay with it because by being there for his customers, it allowed him to make a lot of money.

But he confessed that he does miss out on a lot of things in his life, like his son’s ball games, and sailing with friends.

There didn’t seem to be any minute of the day where he could truly disconnect and take time to enjoy his life.

Maybe you’ve heard of the epiphanies that Australian nurse Bronnie Ware wrote several years back, titled “The Top Five Regrets of the Dying”. Bronnie was a palliative nurse who cared for patients in the last 12 weeks of their lives, and she documented what she saw when individuals were at the end of their lives.

I always think about that book and what it taught me when I hear about hard working business owners like this that may need a break.

And it reminds me that my personal goal is to have success in business AND in life.

Not success in business at the EXPENSE of life.

Do you agree with my goal?
