detachment

Deepak Chopra wrote about the law of detachment which states that in order to acquire anything in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it.

The law goes on to say that “without detachment, we tend to be prisoners of helplessness, hopelessness, trivial concerns and seriousness which are distinctive features of an everyday average existence.”

For example, have you ever set a financial goal for yourself?

And then thought about how much anxiety this brought you?

This is likely because we are attached to the outcome of hitting that financial goal.

We think about it every day, every week and every month.

So think about how this law of detachment might play out when working with a prospect & trying to close a sale.

By attaching to the outcome of that sale due to money or a need to acquire clients, you will feel more stress & anxiety and it will likely show in your behavior as you interact with them.

Instead, detach yourself from the outcome by knowing the decision to “buy” is in the prospects hands and maybe today they are just not ready.

We have to learn to be okay with this and focus on the next prospect.

Are you attached to your outcome with your clients?
