I decided that running a half-marathon a few weeks before the marathon itself is probably a good idea (although some forums i’ve read do disagree). I don’t think it can hurt because I really need to ensure that I am holding my pace. I decided to run the 2nd Annual Swanzey Covered Bridges Half Marathon in New Hampshire on Labor Day weekend (Sept 3rd). It is actually 5 weeks before Steamtown, so its in a short week between my long-long 20 milers … it should be good. This also makes up for the Fairfield half that I missed due to work.
Today was an enjoyable day of rest, no weights, no nothing. I did get myself an id card so that I can start swimming on Mondays after-work as a cross-train. I think I need something different because the bike and ellipitcal are getting BORING! Overall, the recovery day is well, no major pain, my left hammy is a little sore (no pain, just a little worn out I think). I’m looking forward to a busy weekend and running a test run of the triathlon 11K on Saturday, followed up by a long 14-miler on Sunday morning (at 5am due to committments!)
