The week has been a rough one so far, I started out the week by straining an abdominal muscle while doing pull-ups during boot camp on Monday morning. I kind of felt a little pain in the same spot last Saturday when I was doing my interval work, but it went away so I thought nothing of it. All I know is that the first set of drills in the class were pull-ups, and as I pulled myself up, I felt a sharp pain … and dropped to the ground, but quickly got up and kept moving. The worst part is that it was at the beginning of the class, and of course I did the “athlete thing” and kept on going. As the class went on, it didn’t get any worse, but certainly limited the level of the workout I got during the remainder of the class. The major pain subsided by Tuesday morning but I could still feel some tightness and a little bit of pain in it … it has since healed up but i’m not taking any chances. I didn’t go to boot camp on Wednesday and limited by interval workout this morning hoping to heal up for next week.
The minor injury didn’t keep me from running, swimming and cycling … so far this week I got in 2 good 5 milers, 2 good swim sessions of 700 meters following the transition program to Zero to 1 mile program, which seems to be working and then 2 spin classes (second one tomorrow) … all I can say is that i’m tired, it’ll be nice to rest up this weekend..
I found one interesting thing about different spin class instructors .. the quality of the workout you get DOES depend on who teaches it. The first class I took on Thanksgiving was fairly intense, then the second one last Friday was kind of boring and slow .. but Wednesdayso , oh my, it was crazy. The instructor, Stacie, just adds a certain energy to the workout, I got so much out of it. So i’ve decided to switch around my workouts to get into her Wednesday class and then I may take her “circuit commotion” class on Tuesdays which is like a “boot camp” .. but i’m not sure how i’ll fit everything in. There is so much i want to do, there is just never enough time.
So I think i’m accomplishing my off-season goal of getting into better shape. I can’t say that i’m losing weight (which I would love to do), but I do see myself getting more muscle and filling out nicely and the workouts are getting easier, so something is going right…
You sound like me! I used to try to fit everything in at the gym…eventually you figure out what you actually like versus what you are making yourself do because you think you should do it. The variety in your activities is really good – it will help you when you complete your first triathlon. Keep up the good work!
thanks for visiting my blog, I think I know what you mean with making myself do things because I think I should. I can tell by the quality of the workout if i’m doing it for the right reason. Hopefully it won’t be long until I realize what I should be working on..
