Running has been pretty uneventful the last few days, except of course for the weather which never seems to disappoint me. December is the only month that the temperatures can be in the 40’s for 2 days, then in the 20’s for the next two .. its always a surprise what i’ll wake up to and have to go out in … At least i’m not the only psycho out in the mornings, I keep passing the same set of ladies each morning who are also running in the cold and early in the morning.
So I was getting my haircut the other day and the girl who cuts my hair, Jennifer, was telling me that the Farmers Almanac stated that they are predicting 51 inches of snow in the Lehigh Valley this winter.. as depressing as that was to hear, i’m not sure why these weather people think they can predict the outlook of the weather almost a year ahead of time when they can’t even get a 5 day forecast right (sounds like the same old rant bashing meteorologists is coming)… ok, i’ll stop. Its caused me to start the countdown to spring, which is just 94 days out. The best thing is that the Ocean Drive marathon is just one short week after the first day of spring, which means I have a long winter of running ahead of me. I guess if 51 inches is close to being accurate according to the “experts”, its not that bad since we’ve got a good couple inches in already this year … as long as it continues to comes down and then melt … that’ll make me happy.
I figure that since I have to formally start training on Monday for the first spring marathon that its time to get new shoes to celebrate. Hopefully I can find them over at the Finish Line running store in Emmaus, but i’m not holding my breath on it. I may luck out because there aren’t a lot of people buying running shoes right now, but worst case is i’ll get them from Road Runner sports if they don’t have them.
Other than that, running seems to be winning the battle of holiday calories vs. running.. I haven’t put on many pounds since the Philly Marathon, but I still have 2 weeks to go, I hope I can keep on the positive side of the weight battle … I just have to hang in there.
