Slowing down for the taper …

I finished up another wet weekend of running while on vacation in Connecticut this past weekend. Like I anticipated, I got in 12 miles in the rain on Friday morning, then turned around for another 10 miles on Saturday… I was pretty beat on Sunday, so after accumulating 101 miles over a 7 day period, I figured I could take a day off, a much needed day off I might say..

I’m happy the rain finally ended although the cooler weather seems to be replacing it. This morning it was pretty cool, and even tomorrow morning is going to be in the LOW 50’s, or even the HIGH 40’s.. WOW! Just two weeks ago it was 75 degrees in the morning, this will be quite a change. It does remind me that summer is coming to an end, faster than i’d like to admit.

My big struggle right now is cutting down the mileage as I start to tape, which is very hard for me. I have to take some time to rest in the next 13 days before the first marathon of the season on the 13th… I don’t ever do a real taper when I do multiple marathons, its just not practical, so we’ll run 10-12 miles until Thursday, then start cutting down next Monday. I’ll do about 14 on saturday, then maybe 10 on sunday .. then work down from there .. that’ll give me at least a few days to sleep in next week and rest my legs up.
