
I’ve been quite lucky now two times in the last two weeks with the bad weather. Again today I just missed running to run in the massive rain storm that passed over our area this morning.. I literally got to my driveway and the rain picked up, just like what happened last week (although that was with a thunderstorm). I know that the rain was coming, which is why I headed out early this morning, although not as early as I’d like to have by about a half hour, I didn’t want to get up.
So today I got in 19.65 miles, just shy of 20 miles, and it felt pretty good. I followed about the same course as last week, but added some detours to it, it seems to work to build my confidence so I can get back to the trails in a few weeks .. I even had to make a ‘potty stop’ in the local laundromat as I went by, because I decided to have pizza last night for supper (ok, I cheated on my diet, but it was good). That distance today will put me at around 63 miles for this past week, about the max for this part of the training. I’ve worked the miles back up to where I was in the fall of last year, but now I have to add the speed in. The way I intend to do that is by doing the same mileage and courses, but adding in some focused speed work during them… hopefully it will make me better.
As I mentioned yesterday, the pain in my knee from running seems to have subsided.. as I thought, it was just the sore calf and quad muscles pulling on my knee muscles, making it tender. My whole body hurts after the run today, but the knees aren’t bothering me. I was concerned that the runners knee that I had a few years ago was coming back because of the time off I took in the wintertime, thankfully thats not the case.
I decided to try and crosstrain a bit this summer and splurged to buy Wii Active today. I sampled it and think that its the perfect thing to work my upper and mid sections more to hopefully lose more weight and make me a better runner. I’m not sure when i’m actually going to do the workouts .. but we’ll find time, even if its not everyday, if I get something in, its better than nothing. Its better than wasting money on a gym that i’ll never go to (like the YMCA of the past), plus my wife can do some of the workouts with me.
I’m seriously lacking in sleep, and hope to get a good nights sleep tonight .. I was woken up last night again and have another difficult week of running around after work, so its not getting any easier. Only 4 more weeks until vacation, I can’t wait!
So we’ll head out for a 10 mile pace run early tomorrow since I finally think the rain is going to subside, this June weather has been terrible .. although its kept it cool, I need to get myself set for the august/september heat for my races, so hopefully it will warm up soon…..
Off to rest (and eat a hearty supper ..)
