I’m now on day 3 of the pre-training for Steamtown, and still trying to take it somewhat easy as I’ll only hit 25 miles total this week (plus a day of cross-training and 3 days of weights). I guess maybe thats not so little. I actually enjoyed the cross-training on monday, I did the elliptical machine for like 25 minutes then road 5.5 miles on the bike. It took the stress off my knees, I then got back to 5 miles yesterday and the longest mid-week run of 6.5 miles today … I like the weight work as well, that leads me to a story ..
I’ve read in numerous places that the power of running comes from the ‘core muscles’, which are basically your abdomen muscles. I’ve started doing the crunches, plus leg-lifts and the overall weight work to help build this core. It may be an old wives tale, but i’ll try anything right now (plus i’m shooting for a flat stomach this summer …. 🙂 )
Regardless, the marathon is 19 1/2 weeks away, it seems like an eternity … but I know that it’ll be here before I know it!
