Recovery needed …

I survived my long weekend of running, although I am in need of some rest. I did a great job on the WB Triathlon course on Saturday, the course is challenging, all of Mountain View road is basically that (a mountain), but its not as bad as the Diamond run was last year, so I think I can do it. I managed to run about a 9 minute mile, and I wasn’t pushing myself, so it faired out well.

I also survived my 5:30am 14-miler on Sunday morning, although I am quite sore today from it. I was a little disappointed with my time though, according to my watch which I started when i left, it took just over 2 1/2 hours to run 14 miles. Granted, it had some hills on it, but I thought my pace was better, so I went out in the car and tracked the course to ensure it was as long as I thought it was, it was actually 14.2 miles, but still, the time wasn’t that great. I have to work on speeding it up a little bit on my easy runs, I think I am taking them too easy, therefore I worry how I will perform on marathon day.

Today is just a crosstrain day, I plan to do the elliptical for a bit and ride about 7-8 miles on the bike then finish off my lower-body weights. This is actually a recovery week for me, I was contimplating whether I should run another hard week and take the easy week when I leave for vacation, but I think that throws me off too much for the overall plan, so we’ll struggle through that I guess.

I did change my eating quite a bit too though, so I’m hoping this accelerates my weight loss a bit, while still providing me adequate training fuel. Everything I eat is really great and low in calories and full of carbs, protein, and vitamins … i’m hoping this does the trick. Most importantly, I cut out eating almost a half-gallon of ice cream each night (that was NOT GOOD!). That in itself should make the difference!
