A return from vacation

I’ve had no formal update this past week due to being on vacation, but it wasn’t a vacation from training, I still got my training runs in. I enjoy running when i’m in Wildwood because of the beach and the remembrance of the Ocean Drive 10-miler I ran in March. I look forward to running the marathon down there this coming March, because I actually got a look at some of the scenery as you move from the Boardwalk up towards Stone Harbor and then through to Avalon. It will be exciting.

Regardless, i’m actually not that sore this week, I think in part because everything I ran was quite flat, absolutely no hills whatsoever. Either way, the heat made up for the hills I think because on my 8-miler on Wednesday, I was quite worn, but I did run the routes faster than I would’ve back home. The 4 milers on Tuesday and Thursday I actually ran at around a 9:00/mile or better, which I shouldn’t have done, but it didn’t bother me (again because there were no hills). Even the 8-miler, I did it in 1:15 (I actually did around 8.25 miles after I calculated it).

I kept away from the weight-lifting a bit since I didn’t feel like paying for the gym ($7 for a 10 minute workout). It didn’t bother me though, although I did get the chance to cross-train by swimming. I did 20-half laps in the pool on Monday, and WOW was i tired. That is probably one aspect I can work at to get better at running, is to become a better swimmer. I have to get goggles and everything and work on my technique, my son actually told me the correct way to swim (he learned in school). I was quite tired though, but it was a different workout.

I have some heavy miles up this weekend, pushing my long run to 17 miles and a pace run of just over 8 miles. Its hard to believe that the triathlon is just 9 days away. I think i’m in decent shape for it, but I guess we’ll see.
