This weeks pain

It always seems that each week I have a different injury to nurse …. last week the groin, now this week, this sore hamstring. Its a real odd thing because although I’m saying its a hamstring, I can stretch my hamstring and feel no pain …. its actually not even pain, but a real tight feeling only in certain positions. I know it came up during the pace run on Sunday because I felt it get tight, and even stopped at mile 4 to assess it to see if I could continue, and it seemed fine.

I decided not to run today in the hopes that it would subside somewhat, and i’m not too sure that it has. I did lightly crosstrain today in doing 15 minutes on the bike, and a 15 minute walk outside plus upper body weights. Maybe I did too much today even … I’m afraid to see how its going to feel tomorrow morning for my 5-miler, I guess I will head out and see what it does. If there is no sharp pain, I’ll continue, but turn around if I have any agony I guess. Its not the best way to be, but it will work.

I’m not sure if this is the way that this marathon training goes, or if its something that I’m doing wrong. I’ve taken all the precautions, i stretch and stretch, and lift weights, and take rest days and do everything I am supposed to, and I just can’t stop getting these aches and pains and strange injuries. Its quite frustrating and really getting old in my opinion. I’m getting to a point that I just want this race to come and get it done, so I can give my body a break. Maybe i’m just hitting that point of the training (11 weeks in) where I question my ambition to keep going. I’ve never trained this long before, the most I ever did was a 12 week program for the half-marathon, so usually by this time, my body is in a taper mode of some sort. *sigh* … I guess this is just something I have to get through …

I hope for a good day tomorrow. 🙂
