I have to admit that I haven’t been as faithful to my blog here as I was when I was training for Steamtown. Things are real busy right now, with my job change and all, but I am doing well after my last back injury. I’ve learned how to take it easy when I need to, and to not push it. I got through 16 miles in the last 3 days (4 miles, 8 miles and 4 miles) without any issue, although my back still does get sore, I think thats something that will continue to happen for a few more weeks yet.
I had to send an email to the race director, and request that they mail my race packet to me for the OD marathon. I realized that even best case, I will not make it to the Wildwood Convention center by 5pm on March 24th. I have to teach that day, and unless I wrap up class at 1pm, I’ll never make it! I had to send $5 to them for it, but I think its worth it!
My whole attitude has changed during my training, I was always so worried about my time, and training miles, etc, but I found that I can be just as happy if I don’t worry about those things. As long as I get in my medium long run, and my long run each week, that makes me happy and is getting me ready for the marathon. I signed up for the old Runners World Half Marathon, now called the Lehigh Valley Half Marathon or something like that, which is going to be in late April. I chose that instead of the second marathon because I really don’t feel that I’ll be ready for a second marathon at that point. I’m hoping to get invited to do the NYC marathon this year, which runs 4 weeks after Steamtown, so that should be interesting.
My whole workout regime changes this coming week with my job change. I start at my new job on Wednesday, and my wife wants me to work out after work, instead of before work, which I can appreciate, as long as she doesn’t complain that i’m gone to long every day. I guess we’ll see. We’re going to join the Y, since they have a pool, daycare, laundry service, etc, and it is a little out of my way, but I think its got the most bang for my buck.
I hope to get in here to write more often, but I am kind of busy. We’ll see how we do though 🙂
