After a nice restful day off yesterday, I hit the pavement again this morning for a 5 mile run (at 5;15am) after a major weather event yesterday here in the northeast. I planned on going to the Y today to run, but realized that it was 38 degrees outside, with no precipitation, so why run inside? It actually turned out pretty good, the weather was a little chilly, but not too bad. Great way to start the week.
I’m trying to decide whether I should get new shoes or not before the upcoming races, something tells me that I should. I’ll be up by the running store this weekend, so maybe i’ll stop in and pickup a fresh pair. The ones I have are really beaten badly … i mean bad. Regardless, i’d like to get a new fuel-belt, one that isn’t so bulky so I can hold my bananas in it for the marathon (like I trained with). I’d also like to see what other things they have up there for spring running since the running tour is coming up …… (yeah, running tour, i’m so silly sometimes).
I am supposed to be starting to taper for the marathon, but I expect to still keep a decent long run tomorrow (10 miles) and then 5 on Thursday, and then possibly 16 on Saturday, then something on Sunday ……. thats a little more than I should, but most of the plans I read about multiple marathoning indicate that I should only taper for 2 weeks in this case, not 3. I’ve had 2 20+ milers already (can’t get another one this weekend), so I do feel I need to cut it back a bit so I don’t injure myself. I think one more rough week and then I can lay it back a little next week and heal up for the races …… I hope to get some sleep tonight as I have to get up at 4;20am tomorrow for my run. I’m tired because I had to work last night until 9:30 or so, which kept me from going to bed early. it sucked, oh well, it pays the bills I guess.
The weather is supposed to be great for the rest of the week (after Thursday), with the arrival of spring … temps expected to be in the 60’s this weekend. Its going to feel great after all the long, cold and windy runs i’ve had in the last 3 months!
