I was worried today about how my last real ‘long’ run would feel (both physically and mentally). Fortunately, i was worried for nothing because I did just over 16 miles (doing Harveys Lake twice at about 8.1 miles a lap), and felt terrific the entire time. I mean, I got tired and warm and all, and the legs got kind of sore by the end, but I was craving more when I was done. I basically did the 16 and felt okay …. thats an awesome way to finish things up I would say. Tomorrow I’ll do probably 8 miles after my class in the morning, and then get ready to formally do the taper for the marathon. Only a week to go until the half-marathon … its hard to think that its here already!
Its sad, but I think the fact that i won’t be doing crazy long runs anymore actually lets me down. I’m now so used to going out for 15-18 miles, that its going to feel odd not doing it! Thats sick! Regardless, I have to give myself a few weeks (maybe 2) without going long before I start up for Steamtown again … I plan on registering today(?) or maybe tomorrow.
The weather is absolutely beautiful here in the northeast for the weekend, so I was able to dress lightly this morning. For tomorrow’s run, it’ll be probably be even less … since I have to go late morning, early afternoon and its expected to be in the 70’s. During the week its supposed to cool down and rain a little bit, but not too bad. I think the 50’s-60’s is good. I’m hoping the weather for the half next week turns out good, like last year, it was just delightful.
Regardless, this is the end of the formal training tomorrow, and then we taper …. well, I should enjoy the time now, because 5 weeks to go until Steamtown training!
