I had an unbelievable run today down at the dyke, I did an 8 mile speed/pace workout and ran it well. I ran it in just over 1:06, which averages out to about an 8:15 mile … pretty good. I felt strong during most of it, a little tired and HOT (because of the weather), but overall it was delightful. I think my performance is peaking at just the perfect time .. one week until the Half, two weeks until the Marathon …
I decided to stay in Stroudsburg the night of the marathon … my family won’t travel with me for that one, so i’m on my own. I get a free ticket to the pasta dinner, so i’ll take advantage of that and hang out with the other runners … the hotel is just minutes from the start. I feel better knowing that i’m right there, and don’t have to drive an hour (and possibly hit traffic, etc). I’ve been reading the reviews of the race, and all of them are positive .. I didn’t realize that this is only the second running of this marathon. It can only get better from here ..
In some more milestones, I registered yesterday for the Steamtown marathon in October once again. I also registered for the lottery in the ING New York City marathon as well. Thats a crap shoot as to whether I’ll get in or not, but I find that there are other marathons running a few weeks after Steamtown that I can run if i’m not accepted. I think it would be cool to run it, but its not up to me I guess.
Thats about it, its time to taper and kick back the miles to heal up. I have to remember to keep the pace and intensity up during my workouts during the taper, and most importantly WATCH WHAT I EAT. I bought a new digital scale and it registered me at 191.6 today … awesome. Thats less than I was on the other scale, i’ll take it. I also picked up a new backpack for my races, its easier to carry and seems more stylish .. (yeah, i’m a style freak I guess).
Anyway, I should be able to rest a little more this week since i don’t have to get up quite as early as I was. I still have to get up early to get an 8 miler in on Wednesday, but can probably leave at 5am instead of 4:40am … it’ll be nice to sleep in (if thats what you call it)
