So its been about 5 days since I completed the Pocono Marathon, and I believe I have my senses, legs and motivation back. It was a rough recovery this time, took a little longer than the last two, however I do think its because of the extra effort I put in this time. I don’t agree with some of the marathoners who say that you need to rest a full week after a marathon, because I didn’t start to feel better until I got out Tuesday morning for a short jog, then wednesday again for a few short, easy miles and by Thursday, felt good again. I couldn’t imagine just suffering with the tight muscles and tiredness, but maybe its just me.
I registered for the Fairfield Half Marathon on June 24th in Connecticut. This race was on my schedule last year, but I didn’t make it because I had to work, so its official that i’ll be there. I also believe i’m on target for the next couple weeks to appear in 3 local races, namely the local Trail Run this Sunday, then the Valley Great 8 on the 19th and then finally the Old Fort 5 Miler on Memorial Day. That will wrap up my spring race season except of course for the half at the end of June, but running a half now is not really a big deal (well it is, but not as big as it was).
I’m still working on my training plan for the summer, I am however happy to say that I have acquired a mountain bike to use, and am planning to section a part of my 3-season porch for my weights, so I know they’ll be in the plan. I always remember that I have YMCA membership, so anytime I need to I can go down there, but why do it if I don’t have to, right?
Well today is a day of rest, and i expect to get in around 10-12 easy miles tomorrow before the race on Sunday. I have to take it a little easy yet, i am still recovering from the marathon, but think its going well.
Steamtown training starts in just under 4 weeks now, so I better enjoy the rest … although I think this summer will be a better training experience because I know what to expect, guess we’ll see…. 🙂
