i might make the race

I wrote yesterday that I wasn’t sure that I could make the race on Monday, but I have every intention of being there unless there is some kind of major crisis. Seems the guy I work with won’t say anything if I disappear for an hour to race and get back if necessary. Pretty cool.

I was able to get back to the long run again today, in logging 14.2 miles. It was quite warm today, and i’m not complaining, so I made sure that I had my hydration with me and all so i didn’t have any issues. I actually like the new fuelbelt I have, it allows me to put my Sirius Stilleto in it and everything, along with a big water bottle, and a smaller bottle for carbs (i put gatorade in it). Thankfully tomorrow I only have about 2-3 miles to do before the race on monday, I really don’t want to overdo it. I intend to break up my normal routine a bit this week because of the race, generally I take Monday off and run Tuesday, but this week i’ll do the reverse. I then won’t be as tired on Wednesday and Thursday, which is a good thing (and breaking the monotony is good as well).

I didn’t realize that the NYC marathon lottery is next week sometime, so I should know within a week or two whether I will be at the NYC marathon in early November. My ultimate goal again is to do Steamtown again, and blow away the time I got in the Pocono Marathon (do I feel a BQ coming?), well, lets not get absurd. Anyway, the longer runs are really getting easier as I keep the miles in the mid 30’s the next few weeks, so I ‘m excited to see how I progress through the summer with the added mileage. I think last year that I cut my miles too much at the start of the marathon training, and I think I actually hurt myself because of it … OH WELL, lets not dwell on it!

Something else thats interesting, and I have dedicated myself to, is NOT getting nuts with this summer training like I did last year. I really think I can handle it better than I did last year. It felt like last year, whenever I had a long run (16+ miles), my day was totally shot afterward. I’m finding that I can do 14-16-18 miles, and still feel pretty good. That should really help me.

Anyway, on to enjoy the rest of my day!
