Another brutal assault in the heat

I had a decent showing at my last local race for a few weeks today in the West Pittston Anthracite run today. Its a fairly flat 4-mile loop, and although we started at 9am, it felt like it was 1pm in the beginning of August with the heat. I thought that the Memorial Day run was hot, this was just as bad, but I think the difference was it was missing that last mile, thank god!

I unofficially finished in 38th place, with a time of just over 28 minutes, I have to get the exact time from my watch, but I will post the results in the normal place on the blog here. There were alot of people there, struggling just like I was, but there were two specific people that came to mind, and although I don’t know there names, they showed me up. There is one guy who I continually see race after race, who ran just better than I did and I think he took the 3rd place in our age group (i missed it by just that little bit!). Then another older guy who challenged me right at the end … We actually crossed at the same time, but I think they gave me the place … i dunno. Anyway, it made the end exciting, and although I was so hot and dehydrated and out of it, I barely remember the finish, thats how hot it was.

Overall i’m feeling pretty good and getting excited for the start of Steamtown training on Monday. My body feels pretty good, although my back is a little sore from doing yard-work this afternoon, but it had to be done. I don’t feel its anything to worry about at this point. I’ll head out for a 14 or so miler tomorrow, probably early since it will be blazing hot again …..

I was thinking about how hot ists going to be when I run the Fairfield half in 3 weeks, I know it starts at 8am, but the way things are going, its still going to be brutal. Lots of liquids … tons of liquids! Gotta stay hydrated and not push myself I guess …. the most I can hope for is overcast with cooler temps (yeah right!).

Oh well, off to rest and get ready for the long run tomorrow…
