working on getting refocused

I enjoyed sleeping in this morning a little bit, actually made it until 5:30 in bed (although awake at 5). My calves were still sore, but they are doing a little bit better later on in the day now. It was nice to not have to run today, and I tried to work a little on ways to refocus myself and get into the mode again for training hard.

I spent the evening looking at the Steamtown and the Harrisburg marathon websites, reading the great reviews and looking at the pictures. Many times that gets me worked up and excited about the race, and although i’m not jumping for joy, I now remember what I’m working towards. I also spent some time reading through my own blog here, back in the struggle days post-OD marathon (late march) … specifically the day after the race, and the weeks that followed when I knew I let myself down in the poor OD marathon performance. It helped inspire me as I read about 10-milers in 22 degree weather, and pouring rain, and cold and all to realize that I have it easy now. its summertime, its nice out, things have settled at work, and the only reason I’m not staying focus is because I’m letting myself not be focused. I’ve let myself go a bit, but its time to regroup …

So things I plan to change ….

1) start weighing myself again, yep, i’ve let my weight go a bit and haven’t really weighed myself in many weeks. Why? Because I know i’m not eating as clean as I should be.
2) modify my diet a bit, i eat fairly well, buts its the SAME THING, at the SAME TIME, almost everyday (M-F).. although the foods are good, I think my body is burnt out on them, its time for something new.
3) find new courses to run, or run them backward! I find that I get so bored running the same thing, all the time, that I get bored.
4) put new music on the Stilleto, that helps as well to pass the time
5) on long runs, take chopped banana with me, that really worked when i needed it back in training for the run for the red. It helps with fuel.
6) when my training log says ‘speed’, or ‘hills’, FOLLOW IT! I find that I’m just running miles now, with no specific purpose except on weekends. I planned it out to do BETTER than I did in May, i have to actually do it!

This is only the start … but its like a new coming of training for me, and its time to face fact. Thankfully i’ve been keeping up with my training log, that hasn’t slipped, and I haven’t encountered any major injury yet, so I should be very thankful (knock on wood).

Anyway, its a late night post for me, gotta get ready to hit the sack so I can get up and start running again.
