I’ve reported the last couple days that my lower back has been bothering me, and it has caused me to cancel/postpone the long run today (20+ miler). I was all geered up to go, even made it to the course, when I realized after starting to run that I was feeling some pain while running. It may have only been minor pain, but it was still pain, and if I felt it when i started, I couldn’t imagine making it 3 hours on it. I think I did the smart thing by skipping today.
It sucks, for anybody who has even been injured, you know what I mean. I live to run, and it a beautiful day for a run, and its killing me to not be out on the road. I was TOTALLY prepared, and psyched for it … but still feel I did the right thing. I’m not sure if I’ll return for a long run, or maybe just a run tomorrow … or maybe we’ll skip it. I don’t know. The thing I don’t want to do is put myself out of commission … I did some research back to the nov/dev era of last year when I dealt with the same issues, and my reminder was NOT TO RUN WITH PAIN!
I don’t know what I did to it, but if I recall on Friday, i mentioned that I sat wrong at work, however I don’t think thats necessarily it, I guess i’ll never know.
I intend to keep stretching and moving around (not make it a total day of sitting around) as I don’t feel I fully injured anything, keeping it active is the best thing.
I’ll report back later on how i’m feeling and where we’ll go from here. We might exchange the step-back week next week for this week depending on how I feel, but we’ll figure that out later. Steamtown is only 8 weeks away, so its critical that I get myself feeling 100% again, no matter what it takes.
