Stepback week has arrived

Its been a few days since i’ve written, however I have thankfully made it through the last hard week for this cycle and am gearing up for a stepback this coming week. I completed 2 60-mile weeks in a row, along with a 57 mile week previously. Thats alot of miles (in my opinion, I know there is someone out there who thinks its nothing).

So really this week offers me the chance to sleep in a little bit more (only 8 miles wednesday), and since i’m off from work Monday, I don’t have to get up early there either. There is the Knights of Columbus run at 9am tomorrow in Kirby Park that I think I’ll head down for. I like to race on holidays, and as long as my body feels ok, we’ll hit it.

Next weekend I start teaching, which is why this is a perfect week for a stepback. I’ll only do a 14-miler on Saturday instead of the 20+ miler, and probably take Sunday off instead of Friday. That just fits my schedule better. This is where it really gets difficult to train, when I have to teach. Worse yet, I have to teach ALL weekend this year as well. Thats ok, its going to help me get money together to get a decent bike for tri- training…

So going into this stepback week I hope to heal my sore back and my sore hips. I put blacktop down on my driveway on Friday, and it caused my back to be sore towards the end of my long run. I easily did 21 miles on Saturday, mostly because the temperature was real comfortable. I felt so great that I got out for 11.5 miles today (at a fast pace). I’m hoping that I am getting ready to peak now, its 5 weeks to the day until Steamtown. Overall my legs are just tired from the miles, so catching up on rest will be a good thing, and resting the legs a bit will help as well.

We’ll see how the week goes, i’m just concerned that i’ll keep my eating on track, I generally fall off the wagon a bit when I stepback (I forget that not running like an animal means I can’t eat like an animal!)
