I wrapped up the weekend with another 10 miler … I actually ran from Allentown to Bethlehem and back .. (well, the edge of Allentown to the edge of Bethlehem). The flat courses give me confidence, but the thing thats killing me right now is that I can’t find a track to run on for the life of me! There are none anywhere within 5-10 miles of my house at least.. all the schools have none, the high school has a CLOSED track, so where does someone go to do speedwork in this town????
Well, we’ll have to figure something out I guess, but the new ‘back to basics’ attitude it keeping me from doing too much, too soon. Its less than 2 weeks now to the Lehigh Valley half, and shortly after that, marathon training starts again. I’m hoping to keep my weekends on flat courses and hit the hills on shorter runs during the week, I think its a pretty fair breakdown for now at least.
I have to start thinking about my training program for the summer … I’m thinking of pulling out the ole’ Pete Pfitzingers Advanced Marathoning book for some guidance. Its tough when you get into a slump while training and you need a change, but I never really took that book seriously after I read it the first time. I remember I injured myself shortly after starting the training using it, and then never went back. We’ll see what it has to offer.
I think a pretty cool feature i’m going to offer up, for those who want to see what its like to train for a marathon, will be the constant updates on my Twitter page of my training. I’m thinking it might be an interesting way to catch my real time thoughts, and reflections on runs that a blog just can’t get. we’ll see how faithful we are to it though (you know how I get).
So it’ll be another week of slightly cooler, then warmer temperatures again … rain is expected tomorrow, but if I can get through January and February, I think I can get through it. I actually put away the running pants … its shorts all the way now!
