I spend a lot of time with new or soon to be entrepreneurs who are out following their dreams.

And many times I get asked what the skills are that they need for success.

I generally respond with a list of personal skills.

Because when we build a business around who we are.

It doesn’t always feels like work.

Here are some of the personal skills I’ve found to be critical for success in small business.

I refer to them as the 5 P’s.

Passion – Your business needs to be about more than money. It should be about you & what you want to offer to the world or else you will get bored or burnt out.

Productivity – Spend your day smart, take time off & know how to delegate. Don’t spend time doing $10/hr work & know that time away from your business will help you be better.

Planning – A goal without a plan is just a dream. We need to take time to plan & strategize just like big companies do.

Persistence – Keep doing what you are doing regardless of what others think & above all be consistent.

Patience – It takes time to build a business. Stop looking for the big “thing” that is going to take you to the top. True success happens over time when you practice the right behaviors.

How well do you practice the 5 P’s in your day?

What would you add?
