Its hard to believe that the Hartford marathon is just 9 days away, but i’m thankful in some regard because its back to tapering. I did my last semi-long run yesterday morning before work and it actually felt pretty good. The reason i’m thankful though is that i’m tired, just really tired. I have the weekend to catch up on some much needed sleep before we head into race week. It will be a shortened race week for me since the marathon is actually on Saturday instead of a Sunday, so I lose that one day of rest.

So its been a pretty busy week outside of marathon training as I prepare for my transition from marathons into triathlons next year. I’m working now with a chiropractor who I really love going to, he’s going to help me get my back and hip into a better place. I’ve complained about back and hip pain at certain times through training over the years. It seems to flair up and then go away, so my hope is that by addressing the actual issues I have in my back, it will help me be better…. plus the fact they offer massage and a nutritionist who I haven’t met with yet, that’s really the thing i’m looking forward to. I hope to have that going by next week sometime..

The other big thing is that I joined a gym and have a personal trainer.. the gym has a pool (which I need) and they plan to put me on a plan to lose weight, build lean muscle and be ready for my goals in the spring. The plan is to do some serious base training starting in December and have it last until late February when the formal training starts.. i’m actually excited about it, because its something new, and more importantly, no more 20 mile runs in 5 degree weather, I just don’t think I can do that again this year… the best part is they offer spin classes, which i’ve always wanted to get into.

I didn’t expect to join the gym yet, but the sign-on offer was too good to pass up, I actually saved money by joining a month early, so I had nothing lose.
